What is ahead next week for stocks

The market is closed down Friday after several days of DOW attempting new all-time high this week. Most of the up actions came from the big and mid cap stocks which is different from previous bull runs. This could be the indication for safer bets for the traders.

Notible winners for Friday were: (RIMM), (BARE) - new issue, (HPQ), (GPN)
Notible losers for Friday were: (CHE), (GROW), (TKR)

Friday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading slightly lower to flat today. Again, like the previous trading days, the DOW is attempting to break the old all-time high record, but it came back down from its high. Volume has been slowed today. Again big and mid cap stocks are taking the leads, (RIMM) is a prime example. It is a 20 billion cap company which announced better than expected earning report last night.

In economic news, personal spending dipped 0.1% in August, the first decline since September 2005 and below estimate of a 0.2% rise. Personal income rose 0.3% same as estimate, but it is the smallest gain in nine months. The core personal consumption expenditure index, another Fed's preferred inflation indicator, climbed 0.2% in August. Also, the Chicago purchasing managers' index jumped to 62.1% in September from 57.1% in August. It was the highest number in a year and above estimate of 56%.

The ever popular (GROW) is still tanking probably due to the fact that oil and gold prices are falling recently. It is in the commodity fund management business. I guess the performance of those funds are sinking will cause investors to flee the funds.

Thursday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading flat today. Like yesterday, the DOW is attempting to break the old all-time high record, but it came back down from its high. The final reading on second-quarter GDP (gross domestic product) came in at 2.6%, below economists' expectations of 2.9%, announced this morning. Lower inventory investment and a worsening trade balance caused the GDP downward revision. Another inflation indicator, the core price index for gross domestic purchases climbed 2.9% in the second quarter compared with a 3% rise in the first quarter. Overall it was a balance number. It means slow growth with low inflation, a very good scenario for the FED.

The big cap is still the leader for the past few sessions, (GM) and (MCD) are very good case in point examples. DOW is moving to new high, but Nasdaq is still lagging. Big and mid caps are in styles now because of slower growth.

Wednesday After Hours Review

The market closed slightly up at the end of the day. According to investorguidedaily:
Equity markets ended the day with marginal gains but the blue chip Dow Jones Industrial Average made a serious run towards it all time closing high set in 2000 and at one point was within 2 points of that benchmark before giving up a lot of its gains and closing the day only about 20 points up. Markets were driven up earlier in the day by a strong report on new home sales which also helped traders largely ignore a report on durable good orders which was disappointing. However, an afternoon run up in oil prices which was caused mainly by concerns that OPEC may start cutting production if prices continue to slide made Wall Street nervous and dampened sentiment. Hawkish comments by a Fed Governor with regards to inflation didn’t help matters either. Bond prices fell pushing the yield on the benchmark 10 year Treasury note up. The dollar was weaker against the euro but higher when compared to the yen.

Wednesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading flat today. The DOW is attempting to break the old all-time high record, but it came back down from its high. Out of all exchanges, Nasdaq is the weakest of all. Does this spell out trouble for small caps? Big cap is the safe heaven now?

Durable goods announced this morning is pointing to the slowing down of the economy. But this number is before the price oil is at all time high. Could we have a better X'mas this time because oil came down from the $70 level? From the trading patterns of the recent days, looks like the traders are betting on the big caps rather than small caps for now. Stay tune.

Tuesday After Hours Review

The market closed higher at the close of Tuesday. The advance is cause of the following factors: low oil prices, high consumer confidence. These factors drove stocks higher today as the Dow reached a near-record close and the S&P 500 hit a 5 ½ year high. Maybe it is time to buy big or mid cap stocks instead of small cap stocks now.

Paychex (PAYX) $0.35 $0.34 $0.30
Red Hat (RHAT) $0.11 $0.05 $0.09

Tuesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading slightly higher in a choppy session today. The good data for the market is consumer confidence jumped to 104.5 in September, beating economists' estimates of 103. It has been very violatile lately with the market. There is still no clear indication on which direction the market wants to take. Bull is betting on rate hike stop. Bear is betting on slowing of the US economy to cause recession again. I would be in the wait and see mode for now.

Monday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading higher toward to the close today. Volume on the Nasdaq is somewhat lacking but still higher than Friday's pace. Volume on NYSE is heavy as compared to typical trading day. The key for the turn around is probably due to the speech from the Dallas Fed. Here is the quote: "the recent tempering of U.S. economic growth to a more sustainable rate ... should act to lower the inflation rate over time."

Monday's Pre-Market

The market is poised to be opened higher today with the price of oil is dropping below $60 for the first time in many months. The next event for the direction of the market will be the release of the durable good number as well as other economic growth related data to be released this week. These data will determine how strong or weak the economy is. I would wait until those data are released before stepping in buying more positions.

Friday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading lower today. The word of the day is "economy". Like yesterday's trading pattern, the market is keeped on sinking. The only news the traders wanted is "growth". A few day ago, the word "growth" is evil, but today's market, it is "god" blessed.

The market can be changed in seconds regarding to the state of the US economy. Stop buying maybe be the best bet right now.

Thursday After Hours Review

The market closed lower today after Philly Federal Reserve reported a sharper than expected decline in manufacturing. This number indicates further fueling concern about the slowing economy. Volume has increased on all exchanges. A bad sign for the market. Let's see if the sell-off continue Friday before we can declare the rally is over.

Thursday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading lower today. The market is dragged down proprably by the scandle of the HEWLETT PACKARD CO (HPQ) CEO Insider info revealed. Or this is just a mere correction from yesterday's strong advance. Further weakness is alo due to the fact that the Philly Fed factory index dropped to a reading of -0.4 in September from 18.5 in August, well-below economists' expectations of 14.4. It was the first decline since April 2003.

The good earning news from (FDX) did not help the market either. The price of oil is still sitting around $61 did not help the market either. The drug store chains are dropping because of the Walmart announcement of $4 for generic drugs. Ouch! Profits are squeezing for these companies.

Wednesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading higher today. The market has never looked ever since it opened higher. At 2:15pm, The FED left the rate unchanged as expected. According to CBS Market Watch:
The Federal Open Market Committee on Wednesday held its benchmark federal funds rate unchanged at 5.25%. This is the second straight meeting with no change in policy after 17 straight meetings with a quarter-point rate hike. The decision to hold rates steady was expected by traders and economists on Wall Street. Economists said the Fed wants to "wait and see" how the economy develops. The vote was not unanimous. Jeffrey Lacker, president of the Richmond Fed, dissented for the second straight meeting in favor of a rate hike. The FOMC kept its flexibility to hike rates in future meetings because "some inflation risks remain." At the same time, the Fed said the economy is slowing. It said the moderation in economic growth partly reflects a cooling housing market.
I believe we still have room to go higher.

Tuesday After Hours Review

The market closed lower today, but it recovered over half of the losses at the close. The weakness is due to Yahoo (YHOO) revenue warning at about mid morning, the minor factor is the weakness of the housing data.

The good news after hour came from one of the biggest tech software company, Oracle (ORCL). It beat estimate. Hopefully this piece of good news will give the tech sector a good lift tomorrow.

Tuesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading lower today. The market is dragged down by the quarterly sale outlook announced this morning. As soon the news hit the wire, the market sink badly and has never recovered. Most of the stocks in the same internet space are down terribly, such as (GOOG), (EBAY), (AMZN), and (BIDU). Volumes on all markets are on track to be higher than Monday's volume.

The Nasdaq is at the critical support level of 2207/2209 range. Even the strong stock (GROW) has problem going up today, it reversed course as well. I would wait for the FED meeting is over before stepping in again because of the (YHOO) news.

Internet Portal Companies Took Hit

The internet related companies took hits today after Yahoo (YHOO) announced slow down in ad sales, quote from CBS Market Watch:
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- A slowdown in advertising revenues from Yahoo Inc.'s auto and financial features over the last three to four weeks will impact Yahoo's upcoming third quarter financial results, Yahoo executives told analysts on Tuesday. Yahoo chief Financial Officer Sue Decker told the gathering that, because of the ad slowdown, Yahoo expects Q3 sales to "come in the bottom half" of the $1.1 billion and $1.2 billion Yahoo projected in July. Shares of Yahoo were trading lower by 7.5% to $26.77 on Tuesday.
Need to get out of (GOOG) and (EBAY), while they are still high. These stocks also dragged the Nasdaq index down.

(GROW) Has Broken Resistence

(GROW) has broken out of trading level for the second time of $34. Its volume is picking up about 3 times normal at this time. It has been one of the best performers this year. It has the best up momentum as well as great fundamentals. This stock can be very violatile, if you can tolerate risk, then this can be bought here for a small test position.

Monday After Hours Review

The market closed mixed Monday. The star of the day definitely belongs to the semi groups after (FSL) was taken by a private equity group. It is possible that there may be more buyout in the group in the coming weeks or months. The Fed interest rate meeting is coming this Wednesday. Investors are expecting the FED to postpone rate hike again because of the low inflation data as presented from the CPI and weak housing market.

I believe we can get another upside once the announcement is made regarding no increase in rate hike. Stay tune.

(GROW) is gaining today, above $34 is a good entry point. It means the handle has been built. This stock has good momentum and fundamental. (DIOD) saw its 2nd day of advance today. It announced good forward guidance with revenue better than expected.

What is ahead next week for stocks

The market is up at the close of Friday with lower volume than the previous day, it was up very strongly for the week. The main reason for the up week is probably due to several main reasons: higher consumer confidence, lower oil prices, lower inflation numbers (lower than expected CPI). The market's rally is still intact.

Friday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading a bit higher in the afternoon. The upgtrend is still intact. Volume has picked near the close. The trading volume is on-track to be higher than yesterday's pace as well as higher than normal.

On the biggest losers is (IAAC), after two days of running up, it failed again after it announced it will issuing convertible notes. A bad deal for the current shareholders.

IAAC Is Dropping Fast

International Assets Holding Corp. (IAAC) is dropping fast this morning as soon as it opened. The drop was probably due to the fact that it is issuing $27 Million in Senior Subordinated Convertible Notes. It has the conversion rate of $25.50. Could this be the bad entry for current shareholders? I dumped my shares after it dropped $2. I will re-visit this issue after the dust settles.

Friday's Pre-Market

The market is poised to be opened higher today after the release of the CPI number this morning. Total August CPI rose 0.2% vs. consensus of 0.2%, while the core rate (ex-food and energy) rose 0.2%, also matching estimates. This number will be indicator of easing in consumer inflation. Also, the NY Empire State Index checked in at 13.8 vs. estimate of 14.0. Today will continue the market winning streak for the Nasdaq market. A nice rally run in recent months.

Thursday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading lower in the afternoon. The four days market winning streak is about to end because of the lukewarm retail sales data released this morning. I guess it is about time to the market to slow down a little bit with digestions. Overall the down turn is constructive, no major sell-off with volume and heavy losses. A good sign for the bulls. I would not short any strong stocks at all.

Thursday's Pre-Market

The market is poised to be opened lower today after a series of up days. According the AP news:
Retail sales in August posted the weakest showing in two months as worried consumers curbed their spending habits. The Commerce Department reported that the nation's retailers saw a tiny 0.2 percent increase last month following a much bigger 1.4 percent rise in July. It was the weakest performance since sales had actually fallen by 0.5 percent in June.

Much of the August weakness reflected a sharp slowdown in auto sales, which edged up just 0.4 percent last month after having surged by 4.3 percent in July.

In another report, the Labor Department said that the number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits fell to 308,000 last week, down by 5,000 from the previous week. The drop pushed claims to a seven-week low.
But the recent drop of oil price has bring the consumer confidence back, which is one of the main factor for past bullish sentiment. I believe we should have more upsides on the short term.

Wednesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading higher in the afternoon. The trading volume is on pace to be higher yertersday's volume on the Nasdaq market. (IAAC) is finally reversed from the sell-off of the previous days. If it can closed higher with higher volume than yesterday, then the short term bottom is made, buying into the strength would be advisable at that level.

(GROW) is another powerful stock to have. I would nopt short this beauty at all. You will be regretted if you do. Never short when the market is strong especially with stock like (GROW).

Market Momentum Alert

The Nasdaq Index cleared 200 sma at 2223, it is now sitting at 2235. We want this to be the support level. If the afternnon continues with today's pace, we are going to have more up days to come.

Wednesday's Pre-Market

The market is poised to be opened mixed today with the Nasdaq tech index higher. Yesterday's run-up is probably due to the higher consumer confidence number because of the recent lower oil prices, which is getting closer to $60 per barrel. In the short term, I believe it should be a good support $60 per barrel for price of oil.

Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH) topped analysts' expectations this morning, this should bode well for the financial sector.

Monday After Hours Review

The market closed up very strongly with heavy volume on the NYSE as well as Nasdaq on higher volume than the previous day. The rally is back and alive now. I picked up a few positions near the close. I believe we have more upsides coming. Pick the leaders, and drop the laggers. In the kind of market, only the leaders can make you the FAST money and with the biggest bang for your bucks.

I'll pin-point them as the opportunities arises. I will be on margin again this uproaring pace continues. BUY! BUY! BUY!

Tuesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading higher in the midday with volume on track to be higher than Monday's volume. It seems like the market is dismissing news of an attack on an U.S. embassy in Damascus. Instead, traders are focused on a sharp increase in consumer confidence number announced this morning.

Is the rally mode back now? I have to see some conviencing volumes back to market first. If we can keep on today's trading pace on the upside, I will start buying before the market closes. Keep track of stock watch list at all times, and wait for opportunities to come.

Monday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading higher in the afternoon up from this monring's down session. The optimisim probably comes from the fact that prices of gold and oil are down today. The buyout offer of Freescale (FSL) is contributing for the semi sector gain. Unfortunately, trading volume is still low as compared to typical trading days. I would still wait and hold for better trading actions before buying more.

Friday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading higher in the afternoon with lower volume. Today would be counted as an accumulation day by many traders. There are no incentives for traders to buy today. One of the biggest gainers today is (GROW). It had a very good earning report. (IAAC) recovered some of the losses from yesterday's massive sell-off.

Wait until next week to see the rally is still intact before start to buy anything that looks very tempting.

Friday's Pre-Market

The market is expected to open slightly higher today after two days of bull slaughters. According to AP news:
Overseas, the Bank of Japan kept interest rates at 0.25 percent. The dollar continued to gain ground against the British pound after recent turmoil from Tony Blair's announcement that he will step down as prime minister sometime in the next year.

Sterling weakened 0.2 percent at $1.8718, the yen was steady and the euro edged 0.1 percent lower.

Crude-oil futures continued to drop, hovering around the $67-a-barrel level in electronic trading.

BP indicated it could get its Prudhoe Bay pipeline in Alaska pumping at full capacity by the end of October, if the U.S. government gives its alternative pipeline plan approval. BP shares rose in London.
Overall we should expect a better trading session today. Today's big movers to the upside: (GROW), (SIMO); to the down side: (BRCM), (SHFL), (FORM)

Thursday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading mixed in the afternoon. It is trading close to the high of the today. It also reversed course in the late morning. Inflationary pressure is still on many traders' mind for the past two days. I would like to see if the market can stay positive with higher volume today. This will bring down the bear pressure if this scenerio holds.

(NVEC) is the star of the day again. It has been trading very violently in the past few sessions. There are many short positions on the stock with very small floats. It can run either direction in a heart beat. To avoid risk, I would stay away from this one.

Wednesday After Hours Review

The market closed lower at the end of the day. Volume was higher than yesterday's volume. A first distribution day in September. Weakness at Intel which announced that it was cutting 10,000 jobs. However, the major factor behind the negative sentiment in the markets today was the report indicating that wages rose at a higher pace than first estimated last quarter (4.9% vs estimate of 4.2%). A 16 year high. This may give a excuse for Fed to raise interest rates further. The only positive news is that oil prices fell to $67.50 despite the concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.

(NVEC) was down the first time after a series of strong up days. Volume has increased drastically. A sell in the order for the stock.

Wednesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading lower in the afternoon. It is getting worse as the day progresses. Volume is on track to be about the same as yesterday. Fortunately, it is not a drastically sell-off. The sell-off is prompted by the rise in unit labor cost, one of the key factor in determining inflation for the FED. I would be in the wait and see mode until the market is clear for up or down direction.

(NVEC) is finally had its first down day after several days of strong advances. This one can be very risky in a shaky market. I would place any bet on either direction.

Wednesday's Pre-Market

The market is poised to be opened lower today after the GDP revision. A final Q2 productivity figure came in at 1.6%, matching economists' forecasts, but unit labor costs - a key indicator for wage-based inflation -- rose a larger than expected 4.9% vs. consensus 4.0%, a 16-year high. Inflation worries is back to the picture. Perhaps the rate hike could be in place on this month's FED meeting.

It would be intersting to see if the market can overcome this inflationary worry at the close. Watch for the volume on the down day like today and react accordingly.

Tuesday's Afternoon Stocks to Watch

The market is trading mixed today. It started down in the morning, it then went from its lowest back to the flat line and up for some indexes. Volume is a bit slow for the 1st day of September. September and October tend to be the worse months in the recent years. With the housing market slowing down, would the history repeats itself for going down this month?

Today's big news was oil is sinking again, it could be good news for the market. But for how long? The Iranian play is still on the back of many traders' minds. Hopefully Nasdaq can stay above 2200 and S&P can stay above the former 1308 resistence level and becomes the support level.

Two Leading Stocks Broke Out Today

Two leading stocks in the financial service sector broke into higher grounds today: (IAAC) and (GROW). (IAAC) is the business of offers various financial services focused on international securities and commodities markets. It has made a fresh 52-week high today with massive volume. (GROW) is in the business of providing investment advisory services to institutions and individuals. It will announce earning on this Friday.

(GROW) has certain risk in it because of the upcoming earning announcement. I would be hesitate to take up any position before earning. Several prime examples would be (DAKT) and (MED). They all plummeted after earning. They were leading stocks before earning. On the other hand, (IAAC) already announced great earnings a while back.
